The Thunderbolt Trail on Mount Greylock was created in the 1930s as a Civilian Conservation Corps project and is known today for the famous backcountry race that attracted expert skiers from around the world. The Thunderbolt is the steepest trail on the mountain, but those who make the challenging uphill trip on snowshoes (or ski) are rewarded with views from the highest peak in Massachusetts. We named our Thunderbolt Blend after this historic trail because of the rich local history that is preserved even today by dedicated community members like the nonprofit group, the Thunderbolt Ski Runners. This volunteer group works together to maintain the Thunderbolt and other local trails in all seasons, with respect to nature and for the recreational enjoyment of all. If you would like to learn more about the Thunderbolt trail, how to volunteer/donate to the Thunderbolt Ski Runners and their trail maintenance work, please visit thunderboltski.com or their page on Facebook.
