Number 50 was the first train to pass through the newly completed Hoosac Tunnel in 1875 after a challenging and complicated 24 years. The occasion was marked by a photograph of the train at the West End of the tunnel in North Adams, MA, which is the same image you’ll see on all of our bags of whole bean coffee. We are inspired by the people who built the Hoosac Tunnel, a feat of engineering that connected manufacturers in the northern Berkshires to the urban hub of Boston. The tunnel allowed for more efficient transport of manufactured goods to Boston, and therefore opened up the city of North Adams and the whole northern Berkshires to a new world of opportunity. Now, we roast all of our coffee in the historic Norad Mill of North Adams, a newly renovated mill with a long history of manufacturing. We thought it fitting to dedicate our espresso blend to the people and the area that made our business here possible. Number 50 is at the heart of everything we do at Tunnel City Coffee–our sweet and steadfast labor of love.
