Coffee growing in Colombia started in the northern part of the country and moved south throughout the 19th century, with small farms making up the majority of coffee production in the country. Colombia exports 11-13 million bags (at 70kg coffee per bag) of coffee annually, making it one of the biggest coffee producers in the world. Colombia grows coffee in several parts of the country, from Santander in the north to Nariño in the south, each region with its own microclimate due to mountainous terrain and proximity to the Equator. These variations give Colombian coffee distinct differences from region to region and make traceability even more important in understanding flavor profiles. Colombian coffee can offer an incredible variety of flavors, from creamy, sweet and chocolatey to tangy and citric with notes of lemon and lime. This choice from Cauca possesses a complex spectrum of tasting notes, with the rich sweetness of chocolate and cherry, complemented by fruit juice acidity.
